Origins Skincare Kit Review

Welcome back, beauties!

I've been on a bit of a Spring Cleaning kick at the moment...it's only right considering...well, it's spring HA. In the midst of decluttering my space, I realized I totally forgot that I bought this Origins Energizing Essentials skincare set (2 months ago) and I never tried any of it. Don't even think about judging me! I know the chances are, if you're here right now, you're probably a product junkie too...and if you're not, what are you waiting for?! Come over to the dark side!

I've never tried any Origins products but I love what they stand for, a "minimal approach to beauty" and "harness[ing] the power of plants." This is important to me! In this day and age of being contoured and highlighted to the nines (no shade intended because if you know me you know I love glam too!), I think it's easy to lose sight of the beauty in minimalism. And on an average day I throw on a tinted moisturizer, mascara, shea butter on my lips, and I am out the door! Being able to feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable in my own skin is something that is very important to me and (as someone who has battled with confidence issues because of acne) a big part of that is treating my skin well and using brands with integrity! I'm rambling, let's jump right in.

The set consists of three different popular Origins items: the Checks and Balances cleanser, the Clear Improvements masque, and the Drink Up Intensive masque. The first of the three that I tried was the Clear Improvements masque which contains active charcoal. This ingredient is wonderful for acne prone skin because the charcoal acts as a magnet and pulls dirt, oil, and impurities out of your pores. You'll want to be mindful of when you use this treatment! In my experience, this masque brought all of the impurities to the surface (which is a good thing because it speeds up the "life cycle" of your blemishes and allows for a quicker recovery) so this might not be the masque you choose to use on a big day. However, I would recommend using this 3-5 days BEFORE.

Being an oily gal is tough. You're probably used to looking for ingredients that absorb oil or help to control it...at least that's what I used to do. Then one day I heard that over-drying your skin can cause breakouts too. I feel you girl, sometimes it seems like you just can't win. Since making that discovery I began implementing more moisturizing/hydrating treatments into my routine. The Drink Up Intensive masque has been a great one because you can slather it on at night and go right to sleep. No wash off necessary. Perfect for those lazy nights when you're too tired to go through all the steps of your full skincare routine but still want to wake up glowing. This masque is sure to give you a Beyonce "I WOKE UP LIKE THIS" moment.

The Checks and Balances cleanser worked well for me too. I like how easily it removes makeup and leaves my skin feeling clean. It also has a nice frothy consistency when mixed with water which is something I miss (the aloe vera soap bar I use doesn't get frothy or sudsy). This will clean out your pores WITHOUT over drying. It's a win-win situation. But to be honest, I'll probably stick to this aloe vera soap as my regular daily cleanser because NOTHING has given me the same results. These two masques will remain in HEAVY rotation though.

I LOVE buying sets like this because I'm able to try products without committing to a $30 full size bottle. Oftentimes I'm able to try out products I usually wouldn't think to buy and it seems those are always the ones I end up loving the most! Now here comes the bad news, I looked on the Origins website and it doesn't seem this same set is available any longer. There are other options available though, so try some out and if you're interested in one of the items I listed above just head over to your closest Origins store and get a free sample before investing.

If you try any of them, let me know what you think!

'Til next time, beauties!
