Self-Care for the Soul

How many times a week do you make time for yourself? Now, I know that depending on your stage in life, this answer can vary drastically. However, if you didn't know how to answer the question or if you looked back at the previous week (or even the week you have ahead) and all you could think of were your many obligations, you could probably use a little you time. This is where self-care comes in!

When I say self-care, I don't mean your ability to bathe and clothe yourself (though these things are important) or booking a trip to an exotic destination (this would be nice but simply isn't always realistic), I'm referring to your mental health--not forgetting about yourself and your needs in the midst of tending to competing responsibilities. It's about YOU, and if we're being honest while you're giving and giving and giving all week long, why not make it a priority to give to yourself too? Personally, I find it a lot easier to be pulled in a million directions during the week when I've had time to myself to unwind. It's the best way to manage stress, anxiety, and feelings of being plain old overwhelmed. It'll just leave you in a better mood, overall!

There isn't a right or wrong way to go about your self-care regimen. Still, it's important to remember that because self-care is about you, no matter what you're choosing to do, you should be enjoying your own company (i.e. a fun date with your other doesn't really work here though it might be a good idea when you're recharged from your self-care session)!

As a beauty lover, a typical session for me consists of pampering myself with a hair mask and DIY home facial (queue Lush's steam tabs and a good face mask). I'll also indulge in my favorite movies and either a cup of tea or a glass of wine (queue just about any chick flick that'll make me laugh and cry at the same time) and essential oils to help me relax before bed (queue my favorite blend by Plant Guru "Stress Relief"). I'm far from a professional when it comes to yoga but I've been loving to try my hand at it and SarahBethYoga's YouTube channel, is perfect for just that.

Don't feel like you have to follow my routine! This would probably put a lot of you to sleep, but it's my personal favorite way to unwind and allow myself to recharge. Whatever brings you peace and makes you happy, do that!

'til next time, beauties!
